Customer support is where a huge number of freshers in India get their first salary. Companies hire in bulk, often through walk-in drives, and many don’t ask for any work experience.

It also pays more than most entry-level jobs, especially if you can handle English calls or basic tech questions.

Here’s what the job is, what it pays and how selection actually works.

The Work

Three Kinds of Support Roles

Voice processAnswering customer calls. The most common role for freshers.
Non-voice processReplying by chat and email. Good if you type well and prefer writing.
Technical supportHelping customers fix app, internet or device issues. Pays more.
The Money

What BPO Jobs Pay Freshers

International or tech support Up to about ₹28,000 a month Usually needs good English and may involve night shifts.
Growth Team leader and beyond Experience is the biggest driver of pay in this field.

You’re paid a monthly salary into your bank account. Some companies add performance incentives or a night shift allowance.

Selection

How the Hiring Rounds Usually Work

  1. Apply online or attend a walk-in drive with your documents.
  2. HR round: a short conversation to check your communication and availability.
  3. Assessment: some companies use a typing test or an English speaking test.
  4. Operations round: a manager checks how you’d handle a customer.
  5. Offer, documents and paid training before you take live calls.
What gets freshers selected: speaking clearly and calmly matters more than perfect grammar. Practise answering a few customer questions out loud before the interview.

  • Your 12th pass certificate or degree, which many companies ask for
  • A bank account for your salary
  • A simple resume and passport-size photos

⚠️ The BPO Scam Every Fresher Should Know

Fake “HR” recruiters target freshers with work-from-home and call centre offers. Walk away if:

  • You’re asked to pay a training fee, laptop deposit or registration charge
  • You get an offer letter without a real interview
  • The recruiter writes from a Gmail or Yahoo address and pressures you to pay today
  • Payment is requested to a personal UPI ID

Real companies pay you to train, not the other way around. If you’ve been targeted, report it at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930.

Quick Answers

Before You Apply

Do I need perfect English?+
No. Domestic processes often work in Hindi or regional languages. International processes need clear, confident English, not perfect grammar.
Can I apply without a degree?+
Many companies accept 12th pass candidates, especially for domestic roles. Some international roles ask for a degree.
Are work-from-home BPO jobs real?+
Some are, but this is where most scams happen. A real one never asks you to pay for training or equipment.
Will I work night shifts?+
Often in international processes that serve other time zones. Domestic roles usually run in day shifts.
